During operation, electric forklifts frequently require gear shifting to accommodate the demands of various working conditions. The ability to execute timely, accurate, and rapid gear shifts is closely linked to extending the forklift's service life, enhancing operational efficiency, and conserving energy.
1. Upshifting
When shifting from a low gear to a high gear while the electric forklift is in motion-provided road conditions permit-the operator should gradually depress the accelerator pedal to increase vehicle speed. Immediately thereafter, release the accelerator pedal while simultaneously and quickly depressing the clutch pedal. Shift the gear lever into the neutral position, then release the clutch pedal; depress it again, and quickly push the gear lever into the desired high gear position.
2. Downshifting
When shifting from a high gear to a low gear on an electric stacker, simultaneously release the accelerator pedal and depress the clutch pedal to move the gear lever into neutral. Next, release the clutch pedal and immediately depress the accelerator pedal. Then, quickly depress the clutch pedal again; once the gear lever has been placed in the low gear position, release the clutch pedal while simultaneously depressing the accelerator pedal to allow the forklift to proceed at a low speed.
3. Precautions During Gear Shifting
Ensure that the clutch is fully disengaged; never use excessive force to yank or push the gear lever. When reversing direction, wait until the forklift has come to a complete stop before shifting gears to prevent damage to mechanical components. Shift gears promptly according to the vehicle's speed; remember that electric forklifts should not be operated in a low gear for extended periods. When grasping the gear lever, place your palm against the spherical knob and curl your fingers inward so that the knob rests naturally within the center of your palm. When operating the gear lever, keep your eyes focused straight ahead. Your left hand should maintain a firm grip on the steering wheel knob; simultaneously, as your right foot releases the accelerator pedal, your left foot should depress the clutch pedal. Use the strength of your wrist and elbow joints to accurately push the gear lever into-or pull it out of-the selected gear position. Once the gear lever has been moved into the neutral position, do not let it wobble back and forth, and do not look down to check its position; strictly avoid using brute force to pull or push the lever, as this may cause the vehicle to veer off course or result in premature gear wear.
